Automatic group dialogue system at the Swedish Museum of Natural History, in Stockholm.
The original aMuze! Dialog System allows museums and science centers to conduct real-time, on-site surveys of their visitors' opinions and interests, and engage them in discussions concerning the content and issues inherent in their exhibits. The System comprises several integrated components: touch screens or other interfaces on the exhibit floor, a group polling system with hand-held keypads for schools and other group sessions, and a web module for on-line dialogue.
The new component allows museums to run the Group system either manually (led by museum staff) or automatically. Response-buttons can be built into furniture or other exhibit components. In the case of the Museum of Natural History, we’re building them into pedestals, which are arranged in front of a high resolution screen. We are producing a series of film scenarios around climate change issues, and asking visitors what they think should happen in each of the scenarios. Visitors respond by clicking the appropriate button. The group’s responses are shown on the screen. The program then moves on to the next scenario and question.
The entire system is administered through a simple web-based control panel, which allows authorized personnel to instantly add, update, or delete content on any or all display components, from any internet-connected computer. Data is stored in a fully searchable database that enables analysis of the results.
